ABOUT REFLECTIONS PROGRAM

The Reflections program is an opportunity made available to students through the PTA . Students create and submit original works of art in the areas of Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Student winners from the local level have the opportunity to move up through their district, region, council and state PTA programs to the national level. National Reflections winners are announced in May and celebrated throughout the following year. 

Please note that the Texas PTA accepts only 2D and no 3D artwork for Visual Arts. If you have any questions please reach out at reflections@talleypta.org.

In April 2024 the National PTA has decided to rename the Special Artist division to the Accessible Arts division to recognize the importance of evolving how we talk about disability to align with and be more inclusive of people with disabilities.

THEME SEARCH CONTEST

The Theme Search Contest is separate from the Reflections program. Every year the National PTA runs the Theme Search Contest in search of student-inspired themes for future Reflections Program.

This year the National PTA seeks a theme for the 2026-2027 Reflections program year. The student who submits the winning entry will receive $100, and his or her theme will be presented at the 129th Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition in June 2025.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT REFLECTIONS PROGRAM

My child wants to participate multiple times in the same category / different categories. Is that allowed?

Sure, students can enter their work multiple times in multiple categories.

What is the judging process in the Reflections program?

Judging will take place at the Talley Elementary level using outside judges who review each of the anonymous pieces. Grades K-2 will be judged in the Primary Division and grade 3-5 will be judged in the Intermediate Division. Works are scores on “Interpretation of Theme” (50%), “Artistic Merit & Creativity” (30%) and “Mastery of Medium” (20%). Please be sure to describe how your work interprets the theme “Accepting Imperfection” in your Artistic Statement on the Entry Form.

What about Awards and Recognition?

Judging and recognition occur locally and students progress through regional, state, and national levels. Recognition is the focus of the program and there are many ways student artists are celebrated.

At Talley Elementary School all entries are celebrated and Recognized!
